Alt pop group January Jane are giving fans a sneak peek of their upcoming EP this month with the release of their catchy new single “Versions of You.”

Released earlier this month, “Versions of You” is an 80s inspired pop track that explores the idea of each of us having different versions of ourselves and how our lives can change depending on which version we choose to show to the public.

“I started writing the lyrics a while ago when I saw a woman on the train looking at photos of herself,” vocalist Pat Via shared. “The images were all different in style and clothing and that helped spark the start of the story. She seemed sad with how they looked, and it made me think of how with so many versions of ourselves, it’s hard to find the one that makes us happy.”

Using this idea- and even referencing this scene in the second verse- the track takes the concept of “versions” a step further, pushing the idea that we can also create our own versions of the people around us in our heads- often resulting in a clashing of desires and reality.

“There is this insane but true premise in Quantum Physics which states that by simply watching, the observer affects the reality of what is being observed,” guitarist Mitch C. Mitchell adds. “We are always changing and changing everything around us. So who do you want to be? Which version of yourself do you show others? That’s what the song is about.”

“Versions of You” is also the latest single off of the band’s upcoming EP, Your Drug, which is set to debut April 2.

Written about the band’s experiences living and recording in New York and beyond, the EP is expected to be full of similar 80s groove with a twist of modern rhythm.
