Being cryptic is a new trend.

As of late, it seems that no artist can release any information to fans without causing them to guess what is coming first- usually by means of videos, teasers, and sometimes vague tweets.

And while Halsey, All Time Low, and The Academy Is… are all artists who have attempted to master the art of being sneaky this past week, they have never been as obscure or as puzzling as the true kings of emo: My Chemical Romance.

And now, just under a month after their much anticipated reunion show, the band have taken to social media once again to tease the sh*t out of fans- and it’s ruining our lives.

First, on January 3rd, the band tweeted out a photo of a skeleton man with the sole Union Jack flag emoji as a caption.

Immediately fans began speculating that a UK tour was in the works- after all, the band already played a US show and announced several international festival appearances.

But, in classic MCR fashion, they couldn’t just come out and say the date or if the rumors were true- so they put out ANOTHER ambiguous tweet. This time, a video full of random symbols that seemingly mean… something.

And while thousands of fans flooded the band’s comment section, one fan Issy (@bellllamuerte) noticed that all of the symbols seemed to be from an alphabet.

The Theban Alphabet, according to Wikipedia, is a cipher made to translate the Latin alphabet and was used by “modern occulists” and remains popular in the Wiccan movement.

And with this cipher, fans were quickly able to translate the video to mean “June 10th,” and subsequently that the band would be appearing at UK’s Download Festival.

So what do you make of all of this? Do you think that is the secret meaning behind MCR’s video?

Check out each symbol below and let us know what you think the translation is.
