New music from Casa Loma is officially here, and it couldn’t have come at a better time.

The band’s debut EP “This Is Coping,” dropped earlier this morning, marking Man Overboard’s Nik Bruzzese’s first solo release.

Bruzzese announced the formation of Casa Loma earlier this year, with the release of his first two singles “Famaglia” and “Travelers.”

Heavily inspired by the sudden loss of his father and close friend Tim Landers (Cold Collective, Transit), Bruzzese cites the EP has his way of coping with his losses in a space that was all his own- something he didn’t think would fit within the realm of Man Overboard’s repertoire.

And while the EP is far different than the singer’s previous work, it’s overall mix of powerful (though somewhat subtle) lyricism and soft instrumentals provide a sense of calm that makes it the perfect listen in the current time of unrest.

With a mix of piano, horns, acoustic guitar spanning each track, the album provides a sense of nostalgia while simultaneously providing a fresh view on some of life’s hardest moments.

And though the album was recorded prior to the past month’s political events, it feels as though there could not have been a better time to release a collection of tracks about love, loss and the importance of family.

“It would be wrong of me to put this record out business as usual and pretend like everything is fine with our country. It’s not,” Bruzzese shared this morning.

“This record is about pain and loss and helplessness: things we’re all feeling right now for one reason or another. But it’s also about family and friendship and love: things we need in our lives if we’re ever going to fix what’s wrong with us.”

And for fans who may be concerned about the heaviness of the EP- have no fear.

While most of the album walks the line between acknowledging loss and navigating the process of coping, Bruzesse dedicates a full track on the EP to his daughters, Olivia and Marley- letting them know that he will always love and be proud of them, even long after he’s passed on.

“I feel like I’ve worked my whole life to write this song,” the singer shared on Instagram. “It’s the most important thing I can leave behind.”
