The Sinclair has never seen so much love.
Filled wall to wall with eager fans, the 530 cap venue was pushing fire codes this past Tuesday as alt rock band PVRIS made their way back to Massachusetts for a hometown show.
The show marked the sixth of seven intimate shows curated by the band in order to reconnect with fans in a way that their normal large arena shows can’t.
And boy were fans hyped.
Opening things up for the night was UPSAHL, a trio made up of singer/songwriter Taylor Upsahl, and two of her friends / touring musicians drummer Ross and guitarist Johnny.
The pop star, who is only 20 years-old, may not have been well known by a majority of the crowd, but that didn’t stop anyone from dancing their way through her set.
Opening up with her tracks “Kiss Me Now” and “SMARTY,” UPSAHL immediately got the crowd moving and singing along.
“It is such an honor to get to be out here with PVRIS,” she shared in between songs. “I just put an EP out called Hindsight 20/20, which is about moving to and navigating life in LA”
Her nine song setlist included several tracks from “Hindsight 20/20,” all of which described the millennial struggles of growing up and finding your own, including “Fine,” “All My Friends Are Rich,” and her final song “Stressed.”
Her entire set remained packed full of energy, and though it came to an end quickly, it had the audience buzzing with anticipation.
Then, after UPSAHL exited the stage and a brief intermission took place, the moment everyone was waiting for happened and PVRIS took the stage.
Kicking it off with their song “Mirrors” the band immediately received a roar of applause and cheers.
PVRIS, which is made up of singer Lynn Gunn, bassist Brian MacDonald and guitarist Alex Babinski, were joined on tour by drummer Justin Nance. And though the original trio hail from Lowell, they made sure to shout out their hometown.
“How many of you are from Boston? What about Massachusetts?” Gunn asked. “We aren’t from here, but we grew up nearby and are so happy to be back home.”
Their fifteen song set included a mix of tracks from their two full length albums “White Noise” and “All We Know of Heaven, All We Need of Hell,” alongside two new releasees “Hallucinations,” and “Death of Me.”
And though the room was completely packed, fans found a way to dance their hearts out to tracks like “Smoke” and “Holy,” all while scream singing the lyrics alongside Gunn, who joined the crowd during “Death of Me.”
But no PVRIS show would be complete without the band’s two most famous songs “St. Patrick,” and “My House,” which both made their way into the encore.
