Emily Daccarett is truly a Jill of all trades.

Inspired by the written word, visuals, textiles, and audio- she finds a uniqueness in the world that translates to the art she herself creates. Intending to evoke feelings and generate genuine reactions from her audiences- the rising star doesn’t let any specific rules or boundaries get in her way. After all, art is a reflection of the world around us. There are no rules for what you can and cannot create- there is only self expression, and Daccarett is ready to share with the world exactly what goes on inside her creative mind.

But when the COVID-19 pandemic shut down the live entertainment industries- including the fashion world Daccarett was heavily involved in, as well as any hope for live concerts, she was forced to re-plan her year and reevaluate what she wanted from 2020.

Quaranting with her parents, Daccarett found herself free to re-imagine her plans for the year and put a heavier focus into creating at home- including writing a brand new album.

Now, a year later and with the album preparing for debut in the coming weeks, Daccarett is well positioned for a 2021 domination.

But getting to this point was not easy, and we had the chance to chat with the artist behind the brand/album in order to learn how she was able to stay positive over the past year and what fans can expect from her in the upcoming months.

You can read our full interview with Daccarett below, and be sure to stream her latest EP, Cannibal, out now.

Second Society Report: How are you holding up during this insane year that is 2020? Hopefully your friends and families are staying safe and healthy!

Emily Daccarett: It has been a hard year for sure, but I have an amazing family and we have been each other’s support. I’m fortunate to be able to work from home. My work has been my therapy and I’ve been keeping really busy!

Second Society Report: Did you have any big releases or tours that were put on hold because of the pandemic? How has that affected the band? (could be personally, financially, morale wise, etc.)

Emily Daccarett: I had to put on hold working on photoshoots and music videos that I had started to conceptualize, however it worked out for the best because I was pretty much forced to focus on other projects like making more music, toplining for other producers, and designing my merch line.

Second Society Report: How have you been spending your newfound “downtime” while the world has been essentially shut down?

Emily Daccarett: During the summer, I spent my weekends at the lakes that surround my parent’s home. It had been so long since I had last gone wakeboarding. I’ve also been doing lots of DIY projects around the house and yard, I even recarpeted my dad’s boat. Quarantining at my parent’s has felt like going back in time, we really made the most of it and helped each other whenever the weight of reality got to be too much.

Second Society Report: Have you picked up any new hobbies while quarantining that you’d like to share?

Emily Daccarett: I’ve been making lofi tracks with my brother! My brothers and I love movies, so we have been making tracks inspired by our favourite classic horror films.

Second Society Report: Have you worked on any new releases during this time? Any that are already out or that we can get a sneak peak of?

Emily Daccarett: Yes! I started working on my new album around the time lockdown was enforced here in LA. Right now, we are at the recording stage and I’m so excited to share it when it’s ready! It’s been interesting and at times a challenging experience to have to work on this album virtually, but it’s been so nice to have the time to take my time on all the songs. It’s scheduled to release early 2021.

Second Society Report: If already out- what was the inspiration for the release? Have you written any songs specifically about the state of the world right now?

Emily Daccarett: I was inspired by a few albums from the 70’s, but it’s a little early to reveal any details…..every day they evolve as we continue working on them. The concept is very dear to my heart and I’ve loved exploring what it means to be.

The songs are more of what I think people need right now, a bit of escapism, love, loss, and hope.

Second Society Report: How has it been being an artist in a time when you cannot tour? How have you been working to promote your music and expand your reach?

Emily Daccarett: I took this time to become more present on a virtual platform and have a stronger presence online. I’m also a fashion designer and illustrator, so I haven’t felt the impact of not being able to tour or perform live as bad as others, it’s been more of a time to catch up on designing my collection and developing the characters I’ve created as mascots for each song in my EP, Cannibal.

Second Society Report: Do you have any words of advice for fans that are feeling particularly bummed out about the live music world coming to a halt?

Emily Daccarett: I know it’s really hard, but I know that new music is coming, and I have a feeling we are about to enter a music renaissance next year.

Second Society Report: When the world returns to a safer spot and we are able to (hopefully) attend live shows again- say in 2021- what do you hope to achieve?

Emily Daccarett: I would love to perform my new songs live and possibly tour with the band.

Second Society Report: Is there anything you wish your fans would know about you or about the current state of the music world?

Emily Daccarett: The music industry for some time now has needed to change, and with the current state of the world it has now been forced to. It’s scary to not know for sure what will happen, but as artists we have to adapt and find new innovative ways to create. I promise you will have so much to look forward to in 2021.
