In the past eight months as the world has been completely ravaged by the Coronavirus Pandemic it feels as though nothing will ever return to “normal.”
With concert venues shut down indefinitely and a seeming pause on all other facets of live entertainment business many fans and industry professionals alike are left wondering when they can return to their safe spaces- or even more importantly, to their careers.
Artists have been forced to adapt and change their approaches to sharing new music, recording and even engagement- leaving many to worry about the future of their careers.
But where there is darkness there is also light. And where there us hopelessness there is also perseverance. And though this year has made it especially hard to channel the positivity we all so crave, indie pop band Non Talkers are the epitome of a ray of sunshine in an otherwise dreary landscape.
A husband and wife duo made up of Evita and Marco Brantner, Non Talkers are a Portugal based band decimated to bringing catchy pop sounds with a unique vocal and indie twist.
Using the pandemic’s forced shut downs and changes of plans to channel their creativity in new ways, the band hasn’t let the year get them down. With a new single debuting earlier this year and several live stream performances keeping them busy- in addition to work on a new album- the band have exemplified what it means to adapt with your surroundings.
And we were fortunate enough to chat with Non Talkers about their 2020 and what they hope the new year will bring in terms of new music and touring.
You can read our full interview below, and be sure to stream “We’ll Be Fine,” out now.
Second Society Report: How are you holding up during this insane year that is 2020? Hopefully your friends and families are staying safe and healthy!
Non Talkers: We’re trying to stay positive and adapt to this new reality. This is something that the world never faced before, and everybody is trying to readjust. It is challenging but I believe that we will overcome this somehow.
SSR: Did you have any big releases or tours that were put on hold because of the pandemic? How has that affected the band? (could be personally, financially, morale wise, etc.)
NT: We were actually full of plans and looking forward to a successful year however most of our shows and plans were put on hold because of the COVID. On the other hand, we tried out new things and focused more on the creative side. There’s always something positive to take out of every hard situation.
SSR: How have you been spending your newfound “downtime” while the world has been essentially shut down?
NT: Creating music, recording remotely, and exploring live streaming.
SSR: Have you picked up any new hobbies while quarantining that you’d like to share?
NT: Not really. Music kept us still busy.
SSR: Have you worked on any new releases during this time? Any that are already out or that we can get a sneak peak of?
NT: We are working on our new album and hopefully the single will see the light of day very soon.
SSR: If already out- what was the inspiration for the release? Have you written any songs specifically about the state of the world right now?
NT: We wrote a song called “We’ll Be Fine” during the confinement period with the purpose of sharing a bit of positivity and hope.
SSR: How has it been being an artist in a time when you cannot tour? How have you been working to promote your music and expand your reach?
NT: Was kind of weird to spend so many weekends at home but on the other side it also felt good to do normal stuff and have a break of the performing routine. Still we have been putting a lot of effort into reaching out to people through social media and trying to get in touch with media to share our music.
SSR: Do you have any words of advice for fans that are feeling particularly bummed out about the live music world coming to a halt?
NT: I would say to invest their time into discovering new music on the internet and enjoy the live streaming experiences out there until we can all get back to perform on stage and see us again live.
SSR: When the world returns to a safer spot and we are able to (hopefully) attend live shows again- say in 2021- what do you hope to achieve?
NT: We would love to have a great tour to present our new album.
SSR: Is there anything you wish your fans would know about you or about the current state of the music world?
NT: We keep working with the same enthusiasm and we really look forward to sharing our new work with you.
You can stream “We’ll Be Fine” out now, and be sure to follow along on social media to find out about all things Non Talkers.
