Japanese rock band TramstonValley aren’t letting the Coronavirus pandemic get in the way of creating new, meaningful music that connects them to fans from all over the world.

From their debut EP First Three which released last year to their latest single “From inside of me (stayhome edit.)” which dropped this summer, drummer Nogi, bassist Wallaby and vocalist/guitarist Haruki have kept positive attitudes as they face the uncertainty 2020 has thrown at musicians and fans alike- continuing to work on new songs, a new EP, and planning their 2021 musical domination.

We had the chance to talk to Haruki about how the band is handling 2020, what we can expect from them regarding new music, and what he wishes for the return to touring.

You can read our full quarantine questionnaire below, and be sure to stream TramstonValley’s latest single “From inside of me (stayhome edit.)” out now.

Second Society Report: How are you holding up during this insane year that is 2020? Hopefully your friends and families are staying safe and healthy!

Haruki: Thanks! Recently I go to the studio with band members sometimes. But we still have to be careful, So mainly I’m writing songs in my room after work. I miss live, but I think it’s a good time to look back at my musicality.

SSR: Did you have any big releases or tours that were put on hold because of the pandemic? How has that affected the band? (could be personally, financially, morale wise, etc.)

Haruki: Yeah, we canceled some live shows. But I’ve had more hardships in my life than the corona pandemic, so my mind is really flat. No problem, I have a positive mind. If I get a negative mind, it’s not good for the band and the members, because I’m a leader of TramstonValley. I know my band members trust me, and I’m just doing the best in any situation.

SSR: How have you been spending your newfound “downtime” while the world has been essentially shut down?

Haruki: We played online jam and online recording, then we released our newest single in July. And I was thinking about the sound direction of the next EP while songwriting. I’m also making a solo EP.

SSR: Have you picked up any new hobbies while quarantining that you’d like to share?

Haruki: Yeah, I’m studying about high quality recording. Our next single or EP will be released by self recording.

SSR: Have you worked on any new releases during this time? Any that are already out or that we can get a sneak peak of?

Haruki: Yeah, we released the 2nd single “From inside of me (stayhome edit.)”

SSR: Have you written any songs specifically about the state of the world right now?

Haruki: It’s not released yet, but I wrote it! I will only say the song title- that song is called “Knucklehead”! If you guys are interested in this song, please just wait for our next EP!

SSR: How has it been being an artist in a time when you cannot tour? How have you been working to promote your music and expand your reach?

Haruki:  Just working steadily on it. Sharing on SNS and get interviewed for some online magazines.

Do you have any words of advice for fans that are feeling particularly bummed out about the live music world coming to a halt?

Haruki: So all true artists won’t stop creative work, so please just wait for that time. We can find the best way for sharing soon. I hope so.

SSR: When the world returns to a safer spot and we are able to (hopefully) attend live shows again- say in 2021- what do you hope to achieve?

Haruki: We want to go on tour! to many places, to many countries!

SSR: Is there anything you wish your fans would know about you or about the current state of the music world?

Haruki: Please listen to our 1st single and 2nd single. If you guys like rock music, please listen to us! Those songs are available on all download and streaming sites!
