Bay-area artist Razteria (aka Renay) has just released a music video for their 2020 single “Why.”

A song that captures the duality of the human condition, the video expresses the idea that humans’ irrational instinct can work in favor and against us.

“Why” seeks to explore the desire in us to chase the good and the bad, and how good and bad cannot exist without the other. Good and bad are bound together in their meaning, and the video uses choreographed dance and yoga to embody how they function as an entity, the idea representing that there is beauty in pain.

Razteria wrote the first version of this song 15 years ago, channeling her toxic patterns before fully understanding the toxicity was present. Coming back to the song, she learned the experiences that shaped this song, helped her grow into the person she is today. “Why” allowed her to become aware of the power of her experience – the beauty lying within all the toxicity.
