2020 is the year of shaking things up.

No longer are desires to be easily defined or the restrictive boundaries of genre labels holding bands back from creating new, unique collections. And with artists like Poppy, Bring Me The Horizon and most recently, Neck Deep completely obliterating the idea that artists need to stick to one sound throughout their career in order to see success, other bands are following suit. The latest being fellow pop-punk band, Seaway.

With the release of their first single of the year this past Wednesday, Seaway are letting fans know that their new album is going to sound a little… different.

Titled “Big Vibe,” the track was announced as the first single off of their upcoming album of the same name- set to debut October 16th.

And while the track is at it’s core a pop rock song, it features a departure from the gritty pop-punk sound Seaway first became known for, indicating the band’s move towards a heavily 80s inspired power pop “vibe,” crediting Tom Petty as one of their biggest sonic influences.

An eleven track album, “Big Vibe” will be the band’s first full length release since 2017’s “Vacation,” and kick start their journey from being motivated by fan expectation to a band that doesn’t care what society wants them to put out- as long as it makes them happy.

“It’s probably a cliché to say this but I think this is the record we’ve always wanted to make,” guitarist Andrew Eichinger shared.

“Before, we always had in the back of our minds a thought about what people wanted to hear. This time, we just thought we’d write a bunch of songs and see how they came out. Honestly, we just did whatever the hell we wanted.”

With ten new tracks, including “Sweet Sugar,” “Still Blue,” “Mrs. David,” and “Pathetic,” the album promises to take fans on a journey from the beginning notes of “Brain In A Jar,” to the last track “Sick Puppy,” which is rumored to be “the most depressing and miserable song the band has ever written.”

But don’t expect a release full of one off singles. The band has made sure that their album would be curated as a cohesive piece of work- intending the listener to click play and listen all the way through- or what the kids call an album full of “no skips.”

“We wanted to put out a record that –like the ones we loved listening to growing up –had the feel of an entire body of work,” Eichinger explained. “We wanted to make something that you’d want to sit down and listen to as a whole.”

You can pre-order “Big Vibe,” now, and be sure to stream the album’s title track, out now.
