Shred Kelly are paying homage to their family history with the release of their new music video “Take Me Home.”
A track originally released last year as part of the band’s latest album Like A Rising Sun, “Take Me Home” was written as ode to the life of singer Tim Newton’s father, Bud.
Written from Bud’s perspective, the track recounts the process of meeting Newton’s mother, falling in love and starting a family. By the second verse, though, it is revealed that Bud’s health is declining and the track turns into a “declaration of love” for his family, while simultaneously acknowledging his mortality and asking to be taken home so that he can find comfort and be surrounded by his loved ones in his final days.
This past week, the band added new visuals to the song, releasing the official music video- which doubles as a lyric video and a stop-motion style retelling of Bud’s life.
In the video Newton himself also plays a special tribute to his father, wearing his signature furry winter boots- helping keep a piece of him alive.
