The Music Hall of Williamsburg was packed wall to wall Monday night as pop punk’s latest duo Simple Creatures played a sold out show to about 700 fans.

Marking the band’s final US stop on their first ever tour, the band had the music hall decked out in Simple Creatures themed attractions, including a balloon animal station, and a photo booth.

But before Simple Creatures took the stage, New York DJ Mike Gunz of Idobi Radio’s The Gunz Show, came out to hype up the crowd.

Playing old tracks like Simple Plan’s “I’d do Anything” and Mayday Parade’s “Jamie All Over,” Gunz got the crowd moving and their vocal chords warmed up.

But no song got the crowd or Gunz dancing like “Don’t Trust Me” by 3oh!3.

“Everybody knows this song. Let’s get moving!” Gunz shouted.

Other songs played included “Misery Business” by Paramore, “Secrets” by State Champs, and ‘I’m not Okay” by My Chemical Romance. And, after a 15 song DJ set, Gunz left the stage and the room buzzing with excitement.

Then at around 9pm Simple Creatures took the stage to a round of applause and screams.

Made up of Alex Gaskarth of All Time Low and Mark Hoppus of Blink-182, Simple Creatures is a self described “trash-pop” supergroup.

After forming in early 2019, the duo released their debut EP “Strange Love” in early March and announced a six city tour featuring last night’s stop in New York, along with stops in Los Angeles, Pittsburg, San Francisco, and London.

And though the and and their music were new, that did not stop the crowd from knowing every word to every song.

Opening with their debut track “Drug,” Hoppus and Gaskarth kept the energy level high and fans moving.

“Alex is hungover. I Web MD’d him and he either drank too much last night or he’s dying,” Hoppus announced after their third song.

“I’m pregnant. 100% sure I’m pregnant,” Gaskarth joked.

“Were Simple Creatures. This is something that started in the studio and were so glad you’re here with us now,” Gaskarth announced.

“It only took me almost killing myself to get here,” Hoppus said. “It’s not funny cuz it’s true.”

Following up with tracks “Adrenaline” and “How to Live,” the audience stayed hype even as the band began to play new material, including unreleased song called “NVM.”

“You’ve never heard this song but I want you to dance anyway,” Gaskarth stated. “I am most impressed by dancing to songs you’ve never heard before.”

The band then covered Depeche Mode’s “Personal Jesus,” and much to their surprise, the crowd began a mosh pit.

“Probably the first time there’s been a pit during a Depeche Mode song,” Hoppus laughed.

Before the band could begin their next track, a fan began to heckle Gaskarth.

“It’s only fair for you to play Hello Brooklyn, since you’re in Brooklyn!” they shouted as the crowd erupted with laughter and cheers.

“Hey! Sir that is erroneous. This is a Simple Creatures show!” Gaskarth shouted back.

“Is that some All Time Low shit?” Hoppus asked before beginning the song’s opening riff on guitar.

Gaskarth joined in by playing percussion on a sand filled shaker.

“I could get used to this,” he joked.

“I can’t do this,” Hoppus added. “Get me Travis Barker!”

The band then launched into “Ether,” and new track “One Little Lie,” which had fans on their feet and once more moshing in a pit.

Before ending their set with “Lucy” and “Strange Love,” the band took a moment to explain their current status to the audience.

“When a band first starts off there’s like two years of absolute garbage,” Hoppus explained. “So welcome to that portion of our band.”

“You’re standing next to a dumpster fire,” Gaskarth joked back.

“Tonight I think we’re in the 90s, Like an A, A minus,” Hoppus stated.

“I’d say an A, a straight A,” Gaskarth retorted.

The band then took their final bows, and tossed stickers, setlists, and picks into the screaming audience.

“Thank you guys for coming out. We’ll see you again soon!”
