State Champs are at it again.
Nearly four years after the release of their last album Living Proof, the band are once more reclaiming their title as the kings of pop punk. Or should we say the Kings of the New Age.
Released this past Friday, Kings of the New Age features four previously released tracks accompanied by seven brand new ones- showcasing that despite four years off, the band hasn’t lost their touch.
Opening on the high energy “Here to Stay” the band immediately catch listener’s attentions with a sound that is unique to these NY natives- sourcing a potent percussion track from Evan Ambrosio, infectious melodies provided by guitarists Tyler Szalkowski and Ryan Scott Graham, and of course Derek DiScanio’s distinct vocals.
And while it seemed hard to top the hype of the album’s singles- especially “Everybody But You,” which featured Neck Deep’s Ben Barlow and is sure to become every pop punk fan’s break summertime breakup anthem- the band consistently raise the bar as the track list goes on. Getting listener’s hyped up with my personal favorite “Fake It,” tackling their own insecurities and pessimism with “Half Empty,” and ready to hold their own with “Some Minds Don’t Change,” the album has something for everyone. It’s not a breakup album, it’s not a romantic album, it’s just pure pop punk emotion and pure State Champs talent.
Champs didn’t complete the album without a little help though, collaborating with several other hot names including country artist Mitchell Tenpenny on “Act Like That,” Chrissy Constanza (Against The Current) on “Half Empty” and fellow pop punk icons Four Year Strong on “Sundress.”
“It feels so good to finally say that Kings Of The New Age is out now,” the band shared on social media this weekend. “This record is culmination of perseverance, determination, and friendship. We’re stronger now than we’ve ever been before and we’re so proud of this record. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do.”
You can stream Kings of The New Age out now, and be sure to catch State Champs live on Sad Summer Festival this summer.
