Sydney Schizzano is taking listeners on a journey of self discovery and self doubt this week with the release of her new single “IDK/UFO.”

A beautiful track that begins as a piano driven ballad before picking up into an acoustic meets indie rock anthem, “IDK/UFO” is- at its core- a tale of growing older and trying to navigate life when there is so much uncertainty.

Captivating listener’s with her beautiful vocals and haunting storytelling abilities, Schizzano draws you in as she shares small anecdotes of growing up, trying to find where you belong and an ever present theme of not knowing what is going to come next.

Inspired by her own upbringing and her grandfather’s fascination with UFOs, the song follows the singer’s life of growing up queer and as the “black sheep” of her family.

And though the track is specifically tied to Schizzano’s life, it allows room for listener interpretation and connection as they can relate their own relationships and uncertainties to the track.

“My Opa (Grandpa) has spent most of his life being obsessed with UFOs. There’s a shelf in my mom’s old bedroom filled wall to wall with books on life beyond earth and if you’ll listen, he’ll take any opportunity to tell you about his experience ‘being abducted,’” Schizzano shares.

“‘IDK/UFO’ is a coming of age story. Speaking to what it was like to be the black sheep of my family, to grow up queer, to pursue a career in music, and the unsettling feeling of potentially disappointing your loved ones.”
