Just over two years ago, I had the chance to watch Young Culture perform live for the first time as they opened for State Champs at a December 2019 holiday show.

Having only been familiar with a handful of their songs (and frankly knowing no words to any of them), I immediately found myself captivated by both their high energy stage presence and musical talents. Hyping up the crowd in a way that seemed almost effortless, the overall good vibes of their set made me drive home listening to their discography on repeat and two short months later when I found out they were joining the Have Mercy farewell tour, I knew all of the words to all of my favorite songs and knew I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to see the band again.

That tour was the second to last show I’d attend in 2020 but it only further solidified in my brain that Young Culture were a band that was going to soon blow up in the pop rock world.

And now, well over a year later when we’ve all been unable to attend any shows and solely interact with our favorite artists on social media, Young Culture are still absolutely crushing the music scene.

From releasing their debut full length album mid pandemic to charting on Billboard in three different categories, the band are showing no signs of stopping. And this weekend they even further proved that with the release of their new single “Hum.”

A perfect summertime bop, “Hum” is a track about being so wrapped up in your love for someone else that they are all you can think about- but in the best way.

Putting frontman Alex Magnan’s familiar yet unique vocals on full display, this track feels both quintessentially Young Culture and also like a breath of fresh air. Keeping with captivating uptempo guitar riffs and a light percussion track, “Hum” strays a bit from the band’s pop punk upbringing and gives listeners an idea of what a dash more of pop could sound like- but in a refreshing way rather than completely alienating their core fan base.

Recounting some of the simplest but most relatable aspects of falling in love, including feeling high on love and wanting to stay lost in the feeling, “Hum” is truly a feel good anthem.

And with an accompanying new music video that is as colorful, light and fun to watch as this track makes us feel, it truly is impossible to watch or listen to “Hum” without doing some humming along yourself.

If this is just the beginning of Young Culture’s 2021, we can’t wait to see what they do next.

You can stream the new single out now, wherever you stream music, and be sure to follow Young Culture on social media for updates on all things new music.
