Super American and Young Culture are here to let fans know why exactly they are in the streets this summer.
Released at midnight, “Why We’re In The Streets” is the first musical collaboration by the two New York based bands, and it couldn’t come at a better time or for a better cause.
Inspired by the protests that erupted across the globe following the murders of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor and Ahmaud Arbery earlier this year, “Why We’re In The Streets” navigates what it means to be a young adult during the current socio-political climate.
With lyrics that hold no punches back, the track calls out racial injustice, “racist ass police,” hate speech, and makes a call to action for all listeners to rise up and take themselves “to the streets.”
And while the track deals with a heavy topic, the duo made sure to keep the song light and fun- which helps get listeners hyped up to pop and electro beats and feel motivated to “do what’s right,” and “leave this world better than it was.”
But that’s not the only good the track does, either.
In addition to spreading a positive message, the track also is set to donate all profits to Candles in the S.U.N.– a non-profit dedicated to bettering communities around America by ways of mentorship, community activities, and giving back.
“Candles In The S.U.N. (Save Ur Neighborhood) knows that our strength lies not only in the words we stand by, but most importantly through the actions of our initiatives through education, mentorship and co-curricular activities. Our Non-Profit Organization realized that by uniting together we can advance our communities and overcome the challenges faced by families and youth in intercity neighborhoods. It is important to uplift ur neighbor and shine ur light by being a blessing. The passion for advancing communities is why we decided to launch Candles In The S.U.N.
