Just two days before the release of his debut solo EP “My Rock and Roll Heart,” Mayday Parade’s Derek Sanders has released a brand new single and music video.

Dropped yesterday, “But Lauren,” marks Sanders’ second release since the announcement of “My Rock and Roll Heart” earlier this year.

The song, which is a cover of “But Lauren,” by Goodbye Love, is one of five tracks set to be on Sanders’ EP, alongside covers of Something Corporate, Jimmy Eat World, Saves The Day, and The Julianna Theory.

And while the track is now available to the public, alongside a brand new video, Sanders never intended to share it.

After recording his own version back in 2017 as a gift to his wife Lauren, Sanders shared his take on the song with Goodbye Love frontman, Mike Hanson.

“[Hanson] was actually the one to say, ‘This is great, you should put this out somehow.’ That was when I started thinking about what other songs would be fun to cover,” Sanders said.

And while the original track was released quite a few years back, Sanders hopes that his cover will expose new fans to it via the powers of social media.

“[“But Lauren” came out] before the internet, and Mike never really broke out of Tallahassee. It’s such a shame his music never had a chance to do more than it did, and it’s cool that people will be able to hear it through me,” Sanders shared.

You can stream “But Lauren” now, and be sure to keep your eyes open and ears peeled for “My Rock and Roll Heart,” dropping this Friday.
